Summary

This second webinar in the 2026 SWVR Global Webinar Series brings together researchers and practitioners in a roundtable to discuss multi-method approaches to capturing the impact of volunteering on health, well-being, skills, employability and development outcomes. The session will draw from Chapters 4 and 5 of the 2026 State of the World's Volunteerism Report. The session will include lessons from case studies across the world to highlight how adaptive, context-sensitive and inclusive approaches are essential to ensuring that stronger and more inclusive data can support organizations and governments to create fairer volunteer pathway.

Volunteering can create both benefits and risks for individual health, well-being, skills and employability. Positive impacts on confidence, resilience and skills development can exist alongside the risks of stress, exclusion and unequal access. Volunteering also has multiple impacts on economic development, health and education as development outcomes. Measurement of the value of volunteering for both individuals and communities is constantly evolving. The 2026 SWVR highlights the need for diversifying volunteer measurement strategies to capture the contributions of volunteers to changes in individual and community well-being, empowerment and social cohesion. How can we better capture the real difference volunteering makes in our lives?
