On 25 September 2026, the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council (PVCC) organised its 33rd Annual Pancyprian Conference in cooperation with the Nicosia District Volunteerism Coordinative Council, the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, the Office of the Commissioner for the Citizen, and CSR Cyprus.
The conference focused on the theme “International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development”
The conference was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Ms Tina Pavlou. The President of the PVCC, Mr Elias Demetriou, the President of the Nicosia District Volunteerism Coordinative Council, Mr Nikos Drymiotis, and the Commissioner for the Citizen, Ms Eirini Poyiatzi, addressed the Conference.
The conference addressed two key thematic areas:
Part A – International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development
The importance of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development was highlighted. Speakers from the Directorate General Growth, the PVCC and CSR Cyprus discussed strategies and initiatives for promoting volunteerism as a catalyst for sustainable development.
Part B – Attracting young retirees to volunteering
A dedicated session explored ways of encouraging young retiress to become active volunteers. Representatives from public authorities and private, professional and volunteer organisations presented their proposals highlighting the value of engaging retirees in volunteering.
