Online Volunteer Tutoring: Building Trust and Sustaining Commitment

Supporting a student throughout an academic year requires regular communication, responsibility and long-term commitment from volunteer tutors. Tracking learning goals, monitoring the student’s progress and maintaining mutual trust play an important role in sustaining online volunteer tutoring.

Sevinç Durmuş, who served as Human Resources Director at Okul Destek Derneği from 2021 to 2026, will draw on the association’s experience to discuss the core principles of online volunteer tutoring and the responsibilities involved in supporting a student throughout the academic year. The webinar will explore the association’s approach to building trusting relationships with students, consistently following their learning progress and supporting long-term volunteer engagement.

Through practical examples, the webinar will examine how volunteer tutors monitor student development, uphold privacy and digital safety in online communication, and navigate ethical boundaries and responsibilities. It will also address challenges that may arise during an academic year, including declining participation, communication gaps, changing learning needs and loss of motivation, and explore ways to maintain continuity in the tutor–student relationship.
