Director General in charge of Community Mobilisation and Youth Volunteers Ministry of Local Government
On 12 December 2025, over 500 participants gathered at the Intare Arena in Rubavu District, Western Province, under the national theme: 'Ubukorerabushake, Ishema Ryacu', meaning Volunteerism Our Pride.
The event brought together leaders and representatives from Government led by the Guest of honor, Hon. Kayisire Marie Solange, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government.
The UN System in Rwanda was represented by Dr. Fatmata Lovetta Sesay whose remarks highlighted that IVD 2025 marks the global launch of the International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026, under the theme "Every Contribution Matters." She underscored the global significance of IVD 2025, noting that it marks the global launch of the International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026. She referenced UN General Assembly Resolution 78/127, which calls upon Member States and stakeholders to recognize, support, and invest in volunteerism as a pillar for sustainable development.
Other key participants included leaders and volunteers form Civil Society, and NGOs among others.
The event ended with recognition of Volunteerism, through Volunteer Awards, the invaluable contributions of volunteers to community development and national progress, while reaffirming volunteerism as a key driver of sustainable development, social cohesion, and active citizenship.
