How Food Banking Brings Communities and Volunteers Together

Food banking is an important social support model that helps people in need access food and brings donors, volunteers and local stakeholders together in a shared network of solidarity. Managing food resources effectively, identifying needs and organising distribution consistently are essential to sustaining this collective support.

Şeniz Başaran, Vice President of the Association for Combating Hunger and Education (TAMEV), will draw on the association’s field experience to explain how food banking works and its role in social solidarity. The webinar will begin with opening remarks by TAMEV President Nuray Marçak, followed by a discussion of the association’s food banking activities and how volunteers contribute to these processes.

The webinar will examine the core principles of food banking, including accepting donations, storing and sorting food, delivering it to people in need and coordinating distribution. Practical examples from TAMEV’s work will illustrate how donors, volunteers and local stakeholders collaborate to organise food support and develop it into a sustainable mechanism for social solidarity.

We invite everyone interested in exploring the food banking model, understanding the role of volunteering in social solidarity and discovering how support for people in need is organised to join this webinar.

The event will take place online as part of the World Volunteer Day 2026.
It is open to everyone and completely free of charge, including a certificate of participation.
