IVY Highlights in the Angola UN Day Celebration
On the 24 of October in Angola-Luanda, all partner agencies of the United Nations Volunteers Programme posed for a photo alluding to the International Volunteer Year (2026) during the celebration of United Nations Day. The commemorative walk for United Nations Day 2026, which marks the 81st anniversary of the UN, was entitled: "A walk for Peace, for People and for the Future!"
On this special day, the United Nations continued to reaffirm its commitment through the following declaration recited during the ceremony:
"WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS, DETERMINED: To save succeeding generations from the scourge of wars which have brought untold sorrow to mankind; To reaffirm our faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women; To promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom; To unite our strength to maintain international peace and security.
RESOLVE TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS."
Several United Nations Volunteers from different agencies volunteered their time and expertise to help during the activity, providing technical support whether with water, taking photos and videos, or giving instructions about safer areas to walk.
With several expressions of joy through music, dances, the sound of trumpets, and other cultural manifestations, the ceremony was attended by ambassadors, representatives of the Angolan government, and civil society, all aligned in the pursuit of sustainable development for populations worldwide.
