Ministry of Youth - The Higher Steering Committee for Volunteer Work

Jordan’s Higher Steering Committee for Volunteer Work, chaired by Minister of Youth Dr. Raed Sami Al-Adwan, has approved the national plan to celebrate the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026).

The Ministry of Youth, designated as Jordan’s national IVY 2026 focal point, will lead implementation of the plan in partnership with national institutions and stakeholders. Minister Al-Adwan highlighted that the designation reflects the important role volunteerism plays in Jordan and the continued national attention given to advancing volunteerism, including through the Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Volunteer Work, the Volunteer Charter, and the Ministry’s volunteerism programmes and initiatives.

The plan includes a range of activities and events to showcase Jordan’s experience in volunteerism, recognize the contributions of volunteers, and strengthen the role of volunteerism in sustainable development.

During the meeting, Nada Belhassen, Regional Coordinator for IVY 2026 in the Arab Region, presented an overview of the International Year and highlighted its importance as an opportunity to promote a culture of volunteerism and strengthen its contribution to sustainable development.

The Ministry is also working with the Department of Statistics to develop a national volunteerism index to better understand participation and motivations and inform future policies and programmes.
