Kazakhstan continues to implement the International Volunteers Year, declared by the UN at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The project has received strong support in the North Kazakhstan Region, where more than 1,050 volunteer events have been held since the beginning of 2026.

The region boasts over 10,000 volunteers, over 50 volunteer and charitable organizations, 20 initiative groups, and 14 volunteer clubs operating in all district centers of the region and the city of Petropavlovsk.

Volunteers work in 18 areas, ranging from social support, ecology, and blood donation to digital, medical, sports, and international volunteering.

Particular attention is paid to emergency response. As part of the Úmit project, volunteers participate in flood prevention and provide support to rescuers and residents of the region. 3,450 volunteers have been deployed to respond to the emergency, over 1,900 of whom are working in Petropavlovsk. Together with the Department of Emergency Situations, they also hold preventative meetings with the public on fire safety.

Volunteers are also making a significant contribution to the "Taza Kazakhstan" environmental program. Over 270 environmental events have been organized in the first six months of this year.

The region is also actively participating in the national "Marathon of Good Deeds" project. Since the campaign's inception, over 45 events have been held, and over 90 children from low-income, large, and disadvantaged families have received social assistance. Volunteers also regularly participate in blood drives, replenishing blood supplies for medical institutions in the region.

Considerable attention is paid to supporting senior citizens and people with disabilities. As part of the Birgemiz: Qamqor program, volunteers help with grocery and medicine deliveries, house and ground cleaning, home repairs, firewood collection, utility bill payments, and other household chores. Since the beginning of the year, over 400 volunteers have assisted more than 300 recipients of social services.

One striking example of the development of silver volunteering is the "Threads of Goodness" project. Its participants knit warm clothes for premature babies, help lonely pensioners, conduct workshops for young people, and participate in environmental initiatives. Another popular activity is youth eco-picnics and creative workshops on eco-shopper painting, which help instill an environmental culture in an informal setting.

The region also places emphasis on promoting volunteerism. The annual "Mr. and Miss Volunteer" competition brings together the most active representatives of the volunteer movement, helps attract new participants, and fosters a culture of mutual assistance among young people.
