Providing psychosocial support during volunteering activities in the context of disasters, crises, and work with vulnerable groups requires strong awareness and clearly defined boundaries. A trauma-informed approach, emotional safety, and a clear understanding of ethical responsibilities form the essential framework that volunteers need both to support others and to protect themselves.

Asude Uçal, Clinical Lead and Clinical Psychologist at Maya Foundation, will discuss the scope of volunteers’ psychosocial support roles through the lenses of disaster ethics, trauma-informed practice, and emotional safety principles. The session will also address self-care strategies and institutional support mechanisms that can help prevent burnout, secondary trauma, and emotional exhaustion among volunteers who are regularly exposed to traumatic content, supported by case-based examples.

We invite everyone who wants to build safe cooperation with professional support systems, make the right referrals at the right time, and better define ethical boundaries in volunteering to join this webinar.

The event will be held as an online webinar within the framework of the 2026 International Year of Volunteers. It is open to everyone and completely free of charge, including a certificate of participation.
