Regional volunteer activity for IVD
For the commemoration of International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2025 and within the framework of the launch of the International Volunteer Year (IVY) 2026, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme in Mexico, in collaboration with Alimento para Todos, organized a volunteer activity for representatives of UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes, UN volunteers, and Government officials. Alimento para Todos is a Mexican organization dedicated to recovering and distributing food to vulnerable populations. It is part of the city's food bank network.
Objectives:
• Spread a positive message by promoting the value of volunteering through the example set by UN agency and government leaders. • Highlight volunteering as a participation mechanism that contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• Encourage volunteer participation as a driver of change to build fairer, more equitable, and sustainable communities.
• Promote collaboration among governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector to strengthen volunteering.
Activity Description:
The activity consisted of sorting different types of food to assemble pantry kits, which was delivered to beneficiaries at the end of the event.
