Developing Emotional Intelligence in Early Childhood

The ability to recognise, name and understand one’s emotions develops from early childhood and plays an important role in self-awareness, communication and interaction with others. Supporting emotional literacy helps children gradually become aware of their emotional experiences, express their feelings and understand other people’s emotions in ways appropriate to their developmental stage.

Liliia Onofriichuk, Associate Professor at Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian-Pedagogical Academy, will explore how emotional intelligence develops in toddlers and preschool children, focusing on their perception of the world around them and their growing emotional literacy. Particular attention will be given to practical teaching techniques that help children recognise their emotions, expand their emotional vocabulary and gradually understand the connection between feelings and behaviour.

The webinar will examine ways to develop emotional intelligence through games with emotion cards, discussions of stories, role-playing everyday situations and educators’ daily interactions with children. Participants will explore approaches to supporting emotional expression, developing empathy and nurturing early self-regulation skills in toddlers and preschool children.

We invite early childhood educators, teachers, psychologists, curriculum specialists, students in education programmes and everyone interested in developing children’s emotional literacy and creating a supportive environment for their social and emotional development to join the webinar.

The webinar is being organised within the scope of the International Volunteer Year (IVY). It is free of charge, and participants will receive certificates upon completion.
