Rights, Safety and Inclusion in Disability Volunteering

Volunteering in the disability field plays an important role in supporting access to accurate information, developing safe referral pathways and strengthening rights advocacy. Understanding responsibilities and ethical boundaries, communicating inclusively with people with disabilities and their families, and referring them to reliable support when specialist expertise is needed form the foundation of effective, rights-based volunteering.

Ceyda Yıldırım, Patient and Volunteer Relations Specialist at Türkiye Kas Hastalıkları Derneği, will draw on the association’s experience to discuss the roles volunteers can undertake, their responsibilities and the ethical boundaries they should observe. Through the association’s work in patient and volunteer relations, the webinar will explore the importance of access to reliable information, appropriate referrals and rights-based communication concerning muscular diseases and disability.

Through practical examples, the webinar will examine how volunteers can use reliable information sources, address misinformation, communicate safely and inclusively with people with disabilities and their families, and make appropriate referrals to specialists and organisations for matters concerning healthcare, social services and legal rights. It will also explore how volunteers can recognise discrimination, bring rights violations to light and contribute to advocacy while respecting ethical boundaries.

We invite everyone interested in learning the core principles of disability volunteering, developing safe referral skills and making an informed contribution to rights-based advocacy to join this webinar.

The event will take place online as part of the World Volunteer Day 2026.
It is open to everyone and completely free of charge, including a certificate of participation.
