Local governments offer important opportunities to expand volunteering and strengthen civic participation. From social support services to environmental activities, disaster preparedness, cultural events, and community-based initiatives, volunteering practices developed by municipalities can help residents contribute more actively to the cities and communities in which they live.

Prof. Dr Murat Şentürk from İstanbul University will discuss the relationship between local governments and volunteering using various examples of practice. Volunteer programmes developed by municipalities, neighbourhood-based participation models, public–NGO cooperation, and digital volunteering systems will be among the webinar's main themes.
The webinar will also address volunteer coordination, legal responsibilities, sustainability, opportunities, and challenges encountered in local government volunteering practices. We invite everyone who wants to better understand volunteering in local governments, gain inspiration from successful models, and help strengthen social participation and solidarity to join this webinar.

The webinar is being organised as part of the International Volunteer Year (IVY). It is free of charge, and participants will receive certificates upon completion.
