A picturebook with little or no text can be a powerful tool for supporting children’s language development. Richly detailed illustrations help children expand their vocabulary, express their ideas, and develop reasoning skills through careful observation and active engagement with images.

Assoc. Prof. Olena Sas of Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian-Pedagogical Academy will introduce participants to the concept of the Wimmelbook, the distinctive features of this popular form of children’s literature, and ways it can be used in educational activities with young children.

The webinar will explore the potential of Wimmelbooks to support vocabulary development, speech sound development, grammatical skills, conversational language, and extended oral expression. Using practical examples, it will demonstrate how illustrations can encourage careful observation, help children identify cause-and-effect relationships, and stimulate reasoning. The webinar will also provide guidance for parents on how to explore and engage with Wimmelbooks together with their children.

We invite educators, parents, and everyone interested in using Wimmelbooks to support children’s language and reasoning development and encourage active engagement with books.

The event will take place online as a webinar within the framework of the International Volunteer Year 2026. Participation is open to everyone and completely free of charge, including a certificate of participation.
