Developing Preschool Children’s Thinking with Dienes Logic Blocks

Zoltán Dienes’ logic blocks help preschool children develop logical thinking, classification, comparison and information encoding skills. Using geometric shapes, symbols and structured learning tasks in a progressive sequence transforms play into a systematic teaching approach that supports children’s cognitive development.

Nataliia Myskova, Associate Professor at Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian-Pedagogical Academy, will present ways to use Zoltán Dienes’ logic blocks in educational interactions with preschool children. She will explore approaches to teaching children to encode and decode information, use symbols and gradually develop logical reasoning through practical tasks.

The webinar will examine how to organise games and exercises with logic blocks, group geometric shapes by colour, shape, size and thickness, identify similarities and differences, and use symbols to represent objects’ properties. Participants will explore the core principles of this teaching approach, how to increase task complexity progressively and how to move from hands-on activities to working with diagrams, supporting children’s ability to analyse, generalise and explain their reasoning independently.

We invite early childhood educators, teachers, curriculum specialists, students in education programmes and everyone interested in using Dienes logic blocks as a systematic teaching approach and developing preschool children’s thinking through play and inquiry to join the webinar.

The webinar is being organised within the scope of the International Volunteer Year (IVY). It is free of charge, and participants will receive certificates upon completion.
