Drowning prevention depends on volunteers who turn knowledge into action within their communities. To recognize the International Volunteer Year, the Swim Global Project launched its 2026 theme, “Actions for Change,” highlighting the essential role volunteers play in preventing drowning and saving lives.

In observance of World Drowning Prevention Day, Swim Global Project Ambassadors volunteered their time, knowledge and leadership to organize locally relevant events and activities. Working alongside community partners, they raised awareness, shared water-safety education and mobilized people around practical drowning-prevention solutions.

These Ambassador-led initiatives demonstrate the spirit of the International Volunteer Year: individuals using local knowledge and collective action to create meaningful and lasting change.

In Cameroon, Swim Global Project Ambassador Justin Bakinga mobilized local volunteers to deliver water-safety education and strengthen drowning-prevention awareness within his community.
