For World Drowning Prevention Day, Swim Global Project volunteers across North America and around the world united behind one clear message: “Anyone can drown. No one should.”

Under the Swim Global Project’s International Volunteer Year theme, “Actions for Change,” each Ambassador developed a locally relevant advocacy campaign supported by volunteers. These activities reflected the needs of their own communities and included water-safety education, swimming instruction, CPR training, inclusive aquatic programs for children with disabilities, public-awareness campaigns and community engagement.

“Actions for Change” recognizes that effective drowning prevention must be locally led. Swim Global Project Ambassadors understand the languages, cultures, water environments and barriers affecting the people they serve. Volunteers help transform that local knowledge into practical action by organizing events, teaching lifesaving skills, building partnerships, sharing prevention messages and creating opportunities for children and families to become safer around water.

The Swim Global Project depends on volunteers because its global work is built through relationships rather than a traditional program-delivery model. Its Ambassadors, Advisors, trainers and community partners contribute their time, expertise, leadership and lived experience. The organization connects these volunteers, strengthens their capacity, amplifies their work and provides opportunities for collaboration across communities and countries.

From Florida to communities across Africa and Asia, volunteers brought World Drowning Prevention Day to life through action. Their collective efforts demonstrated that meaningful change does not begin with a single global solution. It begins when local people are equipped and supported to lead within their own communities.

Through “Actions for Change,” the Swim Global Project celebrates volunteerism as an essential force in drowning prevention. Every lesson taught, campaign organized, partnership created and community reached helps advance a world where everyone has access to the knowledge and skills needed to be safer in and around water.
