International Volunteer Day
The International Volunteer Day (5 December), promoted in Italy by the Centri di Servizio per il Volontariato (CSVs) and coordinated by CSVnet, celebrates the commitment of more than 4 million volunteers across the country. Events, conferences, and local initiatives — often linked to the theme of sustainable development — highlight collective action and solidarity, especially in the framework of the International Year of Volunteering for Sustainable Development 2026 (IVY2026).
This year, the Day will be celebrated in Modena, the current Italian Capital of Volunteering, with a national event currently being finalized.
The title Italian Capital of Volunteering has been awarded since 2022 by CSVnet in collaboration with ANCI and in partnership with Caritas Italiana and the Forum Terzo Settore. It is granted annually to municipalities that demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteering, civic engagement, and active citizenship.
